Add 10 drops of reagent B to the test jar.
Add few specks of reagent A and shake well. Solution color should change to either pink or blue.
When pink color appears add reagent D-1 drop by drop till the color of the solution turns to blue. Shake constantly while adding reagent D-1.
If color remains pink even after addition of 10 drops of reagent D-1, then start adding reagent D-5 drop wise till pink color of solution turns into blue.
Hardness         =          No. of drops of Reagent D-1 X 1ppm or
Hardness         =          No. of drops of Reagent D-5 X 5ppm.
The hardness of soft water must be below 5 ppm. If the hardness is found greater than 5 ppm, regeneration of the softener should be done
Frequency of hardness testing for soft water to be done at every two-hour daily basis.
