Testing of Water
Rinse
the test jar with the soft water which is to be tested. Take 25 ml of soft
water sample in the test jar.
Add
10 drops of reagent B to the test jar.
Add
few specks of reagent A and shake well. Solution color should change to either
pink or blue.
When
pink color appears add reagent D-1 drop by drop till the color of the solution
turns to blue. Shake constantly while adding reagent D-1.
If
color remains pink even after addition of 10 drops of reagent D-1, then start
adding reagent D-5 drop wise till pink color of solution turns into blue.
Hardness = No.
of drops of Reagent D-1 X 1ppm or
Hardness = No.
of drops of Reagent D-5 X 5ppm.
The
hardness of soft water must be below 5 ppm. If the hardness is found greater
than 5 ppm, regeneration of the softener should be done
Frequency
of hardness testing for soft water to be done at every two-hour daily basis.
