Purpose:
The purpose of this SOP is to provide written
guidelines for Calibration of Brook Field
Viscometer.
Procedure:
Frequency: Quarterly
- Put the standard of 5 cps silicon fluid in a beaker, ensuring the level of spindle Up to groove.
- Put the thermo-sensor in the sample.
- Ensure the temp. of fluid is 250 C
- Measure the viscosity at 100 RPM
- Take two readings in cps to obtain average viscosity.
- After finishing the work, the beaker should be thoroughly washed with distilled water.
- Acceptance criteria: 5 cps + 1.0 % i .e.
- Limit: 4.95 to 5.05 cps
- Maintenance / Repairs:
- When the instrument does not comply with the Acceptance criteria specified above, the instrument should be labeled “ out of calibration “ and should be repaired / serviced.
Precautions:
- Remove the Ultra Low adaptor (U. L.) & carefully clean the spindle using distilled water.
- Ensure that the spindle or any other part of the instrument is handled with
- extreme caution & the surfaces are not scratched as it can disturb the calibration
- of the instrument.
- Maintain the cleanliness of instrument before & after use at each time.
